I believe your internet may have corrupted or something like that to give the code for the smiley. It should be like this:

This happens once in a while for me also, but it goes away, refresh or wait for the page to load. :D

I think it does that because html is turned off :]
On another site they use topic icons but they have the html activated on so it doesn't do that :]
